Scott Sutton ’89 Wins Digital Camera

Winner of Smith eAlumni Network Contest Announced
Looking to collaborate with a local company,
Scott Sutton turned to a valuable resource courtesy of his alma mater: The Robert H. Smith School of Business’s eAlumni Network. As a 1989 Smith marketing graduate, Sutton was sure there was no better way to make a connection than to call on a fellow Terp.

Following his instinct paid off: not only did he make a business connection, but he also won the Smith eAlumni Network Canon PowerShot A620 digital camera contest, just by updating his profile.

Sutton admits that he had not taken full advantage of what the eAlumni Network offers, but now he is looking forward to getting in touch with classmates and other potential business contacts. “Now that I know about this connection, you can count on me to spread the word about the Network.”

As director of Merkle Inc., a top tier database marketing agency based in Lanham, MD, Sutton manages the client relationships and delivery of database marketing services to a group of large clients in the travel, retail/wholesale and publishing industries. He is responsible for driving his clients’ direct marketing performance, achieving high levels of client satisfaction, and growing relationships between Merkle and clients.

A devoted Terp, Sutton never leaves home without his beloved Terp gear; the photo above was taken in Pike Place Market, Seattle, Washington. He is also a loyal Terrapin Club member, and you can often find him at football and basketball games with his wife, Joan.

After graduating from Smith, Sutton received his MBA in 1995 from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. He is a member of the Direct Marketing Association, and a community service volunteer for his church in Alexandria.
